Nov 29,  · This is not altogether flattering, nor is it altogether bad. A chorus girl might have her hair cut short for any number of reasons -- to fit under a costume hat or wig or it could indicate a kind of Devil-may-care lifestyle (I would say, "flapper," but the Jazz Age is still a few years off) What you have to decide for yourself is "does the addition of 'Coney Island' make the remark good or bad?".

Dec 04,  · The incubator was an extraordinary feat for the medical world and had already been saving the lives of babies across the Pond in Europe. But it was introduced to America at Coney Island by French.

One of the wickedest areas of Coney Island, especially in the 's and 's, was "The Gut", a latter-day Sodom, located between W. 3rd and W. 5th in the approximate center of West Brighton. It was ramshackle groups of wooden shanties and cottages that housed pavilions serving Milwaukee beer, bars, cabarets, fleabag hotels and houses of ill.
